Ceneri Base Tunnel for Basler & Hofmann, Zurich, Switzerland

Basler & Hofmann commissioned photographs for their work on the Ceneri Base Tunnel, a 15.4-kilometre rail tunnel through the Ticino Alps. The shoot took place in 2017, three years before the tunnel opened – track installed, systems being tested, the space not yet in use. The brief was infrastructure as built fact: concrete, alignment, and the particular quality of a place designed entirely around function.
