Harting, Biel, Switzerland
Our connector photography for Harting in Biel took place when the plant still made more than 2,700 connector variants. The assignment covered both the production floor and the people running it: employee portraits alongside documentation of the manufacturing process. We developed the image concept from scratch, then executed it on location. Connector lines at Harting were built for throughput, not photography, and the portraits still had to look consistent.
The connector production has since moved elsewhere in the Harting group. Today Biel is the group’s competence centre for 3D-MID components, moulded plastic carriers with conductor tracks worked directly into them, and for surface coating and electroplating. It is also becoming Harting’s centre for lead-free turning. Around 120 people work there. We made the portraits on the floor between production cycles, one lighting set-up carried from station to station.
