Reportage & Landscape Photography

For The Telegraph Magazine, Vanity Fair, Fortune, Wired UK and HODINKEE we photograph stories rather than products. For companies, it means showing a place as it really is. Reportage photography brings together editorial assignments, commissioned work and our own landscape projects.

The size of an assignment has never decided whether we take it. What there is to see does. Many of these places are not open to the public. Securing access and permits is part of our work. We set out from Zurich or Munich and go where the story is. Write to us or call us directly.

Between commissions we pursue personal projects, and many of them are landscapes.

Eternal Ice follows Switzerland’s glaciers and the water they leave behind. It runs from the Bernina massif to the Grande Dixence system and the record-holding Bieudron hydropower station. On the Furka Pass at 2,429 metres, decommissioned bunkers stand disguised as chalets.

Infrastructure is a recurring theme. At Zurich Airport we followed the night renovation of runway 14/32. The excavators came in at 22:00; by 06:30 the runway was clear. In the Jura, we photographed the concrete tunnel portals of the A16 Transjurane. For Allianz Magazine we photographed the Gotthard Base Tunnel under construction, inside the mountain and in the landscape above it. In 2017 we photographed the Ceneri Base Tunnel for Basler & Hofmann, three years before it opened.

Cities appear from above. In Busan, harbour and hills fit into one frame, made on a weekend between assignments. In Hong Kong, it is a crowded intersection in Kowloon.

The ON LOCATION Journal tells the longer stories. CHAVALON is a disused power station we found by accident above the Rhône valley. At the Edge of Flight features decommissioned airplanes in California’s Mojave Desert.
