The Paul Scherrer Institute in Villigen conducts research across matter and materials, energy and human health, including proton therapy treatments delivered on site. Our Paul Scherrer Institute photography spans more than ten years: annual reports, corporate brochures and the magazine 5232. The work ranged from precision instruments in laboratory conditions to patients in treatment. Some assignments stay with you not because of what was difficult, but because of what was at stake.

The two halves of the assignment asked for opposite things. On the proton therapy ward: consent, distance and the patience to stay out of the way. In the laboratories: full control of the light and time to build a frame. A decade of Paul Scherrer Institute photography produced both, and the report needed them side by side.
