Porsche for Triple A Magazine, Stuttgart, Germany

Assignment for Triple A, the magazine of Stuttgarter Zeitung: automotive photography documenting the special paint finish of a Porsche 911 Cabriolet in Mexico Blue. It’s one of the historic Porsche colours available again on request. The shoot followed the paint process in the paint shop at Porsche’s main plant in Zuffenhausen, from bare body to final clear coat. Mexico Blue, colour code 336, was a regular 911 colour in 1974 and 1975. Today Porsche offers more than 160 colours beyond the standard range. The context: a magazine story about colour, identity and what gets lost when roads turn grey.

A paint shop is a controlled environment for the work and a difficult one for photography. Dust discipline, filtered light and a shell that reflects everything in the room. The Porsche 911 automotive photography followed each stage in sequence: from cleaning and the paint robots to primer, colour, clear coat and the final audit, with the blue as the only strong note in an otherwise grey hall.
