Clariant, Moosburg & Gammelsdorf, Germany
Clariant mines bentonite near Gammelsdorf, in the Freising district of Bavaria. It processes the clay a few kilometres away, in Moosburg on the Isar. The assignment was Clariant bentonite photography for an Integrated Report. Some of Germany’s largest bentonite deposits lie in this area, and mining here goes back to 1906. The open pit reads like a landscape; the subject is industrial chemistry.
In Moosburg, Clariant develops and tests foundry binders, bentonite and additives such as the Ecosil range. They hold the quartz sand of a casting mould together. The site runs its own test foundry. Rigs there simulate real casting conditions and measure the emissions from green-sand moulds, with the aim of cleaner casting. Our Clariant bentonite photography covered pit, processing plant, a test pour and one of the people who run it.
Further Clariant work: the pigment line in Höchst, and four European production sites. Two other entries show Portrait photography and CGI visuals from the Integrated Report.
Part of our Industrial and Corporate & Portrait work.
