Science & Research Photography

In research institutes, laboratories, hospitals and data centres, the important things are often the hardest to see. Science and research photography has to make instruments, processes and people understandable. It must not make them look like something they are not. One detector or an entire institute: booked from Zurich or Munich, we come to the lab.

The pictures end up in annual reports, research magazines and integrated reports.

For more than ten years we have photographed at the Paul Scherrer Institute in Villigen. The subjects range from precision instruments to proton therapy. For PSI magazine 5232 we covered climate research: an ice core drill, the smog chamber, a filter strip from the mobile air lab. The same magazine ran our still lifes of circuit boards and modules. Next door at Park Innovaare, we photographed the neutron and synchrotron X-ray analysis spaces of ANAXAM, mostly in available light.

For the SWITCH annual report we photographed the server racks and cooling systems of the CSCS in Lugano. At University Hospital Basel, the annual report covered AI diagnostics, virtual reality and robot-guided laser surgery. Clariant’s laboratories appear here too, from the production sites of its Integrated Report.
