Rotary indexing machine in the manufacture, Patek Philippe for Fortune Magazine, USA, watchmaking photography by Scanderbeg Sauer

Patek Philippe for Fortune Magazine, NYC, USA

Patek Philippe produces its movements, cases and bracelets entirely in-house, one of the few watch manufacturers to control every step from development to final assembly. The assignment was editorial Patek Philippe photography for Fortune Magazine, USA. The subject was a company that measures time in generations. The photography needed to match that register: precise, unhurried, without decoration.

The shoot covered the full arc of production, from décolletage, the high-precision turning of the tiny screws, pinions and arbors a mechanical movement is built from, through hand-finishing to final assembly. We stayed inside the working manufacture: available light wherever it held up, nothing staged or rearranged for the camera. Fortune Magazine ran the Patek Philippe photography as an editorial essay on industrial craft, not as product pictures.

More watchmaking work: Audemars Piguet, H. Moser & Cie., Omega and Richard Mille.
