Richard Mille watchmaking photography for Wired UK, produced at North Thin Ply Technology in Lausanne. The assignment documented the manufacturing environment behind Richard Mille’s Carbon TPT and Quartz TPT components: unidirectional fibre processing, automated tape layup and autoclave curing under clean room conditions. Working inside active production zones, without controlled lighting and without interrupting ongoing operations, defined the approach. A technically specific subject in a working factory, photographed as it runs.

Carbon TPT is built from fibre layers laid at alternating angles, so the material only becomes visible at close range and in the right light. We used what light the clean areas offer and stayed out of the automated layup paths. Wired ran this Richard Mille watchmaking photography as a production story rather than a watch story.
