Watchmaking Photography

From the Vallée de Joux to Biel, Geneva and Schaffhausen, our watchmaking photography follows the watch through the manufacture. It covers materials, machining and finishing, and the people who do the work. The finished watch is part of it, but rarely the whole story. An independent workshop interests us as much as a large manufacture. From our studio near Zurich, most of them are a few hours’ drive away.

At Audemars Piguet in Le Brassus we followed the Code 11.59 case from raw material to finished surface. For Wired UK we photographed Carbon TPT production for Richard Mille at North Thin Ply Technology in Lausanne. In Schaffhausen, we photographed the Swiss Alp Watch of H. Moser & Cie. for HODINKEE, with its Vantablack dial.

Omega appears three times. In Biel we photographed Shigeru Ban’s production building for the brand, for Telegraph Luxury. At the brand’s museum we photographed its space collection for Vanity Fair, from the Speedmaster to a Lunar Roving Vehicle. The third is a portrait of Apollo 16 moonwalker Charlie Duke, made at Omega for The Telegraph Magazine’s lunar special. For Fortune Magazine we photographed Patek Philippe in Geneva, a company that plans in generations rather than seasons.

Magazines in London and New York commissioned much of this work: The Telegraph, Vanity Fair, Wired UK, HODINKEE and Fortune. Audemars Piguet came to us directly, without a magazine in between.
